potty log day 154

Ok so I don't really know what day it is in our potty training experiance...what I do know is that it has been going on for a very long time! Over the weekend, I started to use a timer, set every 20-30 minutes. She actually goes potty whenthe timer goes off, with out a fight...for about the first 3 hours. Then the novelty wears off and it back to the "but I don't have to"'s. This morning, I was resolved to go back to pull-ups (retiring the panties for a couple of weeks), but she asked for panties! Hour 1: potty twice and then poopies and pee-pees in the panties...AAARRRGGGGHHHH! Get her all cleaned up and threw the panties away...new panties on and the timer set...Hour 2: potty 3 times in a row and counting!!!

  1. If she really wants the panties, you may have to tell her that if she has an accident she will have to go back in the pull-ups for a few days. Tell her that when she keeps the pull-ups dry for a whole day she will be allowed to wear the pretty panties - she needs to earn them... This way she will be motivated to identify the need herself (without the timer), and earn the reward. Oh, I remember this fun... Hang in there! Both my girls were trained the summer before starting preschool - you will get there!

  2. Hi Melanie, I know it is frustrating! I felt like Eva was behinid everyone else but I found out that every kid is different. I'm not a good one to ask for advice but I can tell you about our experience. The good news is that once Eva started to use the potty, it went very fast! She started four months ago and now she won't even let us help her anymore. She likes to do it "all by myself". In my opinion (only my opinion and my pediatrician agreed) pull-ups are a waste of money. They are expensive and messy and for Eva they sent the wrong message. She got used to feeling messy and I think that hurt her potty training. When we switched back strictly to regular diapers is when she started using the potty. Then we went to toys r us and made a big deal out of her picking out her own new potty (even though we already had two other potties from before) and picking out her own reward stickers. And the only other thing that helped was just waiting for her to be ready and being patient and not getting frustrated with her (I know its hard!)When she knew I was frustrated she didn't want to go. Good luck!
